It's so tempting to go with Prohibit after his superb effort when third in the Stewards Cup and with Soumillon booked. He really deserves to land a decent prize but isn't straightforward and CAPTAIN CAREY is just preferred in receipt of 7lb from the Cowell charge. He was far from disgraced on Southwell's fibresand on Tuesday and that may just have put him right for this. Fol Hollow was simply not at his best here last time but David Nicholls clearly has no qualms about returning his useful handicapper to this track. He is a must for any shortlisrt.
Secret Asset has not been able to add to a winning reappearance yet this season, but he's run some good races in defeat since and looks to have a leading chance at the weights here. Captain Carey could be troublesome if able to put a flat run on the fibresand in the week behind him.

Mark Johnston makes life impossible for followers of the stable by fielding forty per cent of the field and therefore it is probably best to look elsewhere. Yashrid scored over course and distance last time and has enjoyed a progressive season thanks to the expert placing of Michael Jarvis. He seems sure to give another good account but OPERA GAL remains very lightly-raced and is improving at a rapid rate, most recently staying on stoutly to claim the runner-up spot here on her handicap bow. Further progress should see her go very close, whilst Sing Sweetly is another potential improver.
A race featuring plenty of 3-y-os going the right way. None more so than Yashrid, who is taken to continue the winning thread, perhaps at the main expense of Opera Gal and Life And Soul.

VITZNAU ran a cracker behind Sea Lord at Goodwood and certainly has the talent to score. However, he only has one win to his name in well over two years but his ability to throw in very useful placed performances against quality opposition affords him little respite from the handicapper. He's more than good enough to win this but can only be a speculative recommendation with his wins-to-runs record. Dunn'o is tough and consistent and looks sound each-way material, whilst Set The Trend will be on the premises if returning to the strong level of his penultimate outing at Epsom.
Benandonner has been in peak form in recent weeks, doing well in the face of adversity at Goodwood 11 days ago, and another bold showing is anticipated. Set The Tend remains on a fair mark and rates a danger, while Vitznau has place prospects under Olivier Peslier.

LADY ECLAIR ran a tremendous race in the opening race of the Glorious Goodwood meeting, shouldering top weight into fourth place in the marathon Goodwood Stakes (2m5f) behind Ghimaar. She has been a typically progressive Mark Johnston handicapper and seems sure to give yet another good account. Colloquial has a good record here, scored over course and distance last time and hasn't been harshly penalised for his two recent successes. Another solid effort looks highly likely. Hevelius finished well to fill the minor placing behind Colloquial last time and this lightly-raced sort can figure prominently once again.
Lady Eclair has not stopped improving this year, but the return to 2m perhaps isn't ideal, so Bernie The Bolt is put up as a value alternative. Colloquial also has to enter the reckoning given his current vein of form.

GENE AUTRY has it all to do under top weight but he's in fine form and has bagged the rails draw. Fran Berry therefore has the opportunity to dictate matters and can repel a field featuring some progressive second season sprinters. Deacon Blues appears to require exaggerated waiting tactics but has a useful turn of foot and represents a real threat if the race pans out his way. However, a bigger danger could be Gramercy who cleared away to score with plenty in hand last time, looks on the upgrade and has Olivier Peslier in the plate.
Deacon Blues did nothing last time to alter the view he's a handicapper to keep on side, and he's a confident bet to see off Gramercy and Gene Autry.
